How to Set Up Your Formuler Streaming Box: Complete Beginner's Guide (2026)

You've got your new Formuler streaming box. Now what? This guide walks you through unboxing, connecting, and getting Netflix, Disney+, IPTV, and everything else running — in about 15 minutes. Works for any Formuler box: the Z10, Z mini, GTV 4K, Z11 Pro, Z11 Pro Max BT1, or Z12 Ultra.

What's in the box

Every Formuler box ships with the same core kit (specifics vary by model):

  • The Formuler streaming media player
  • Remote control (IR remote for Z10 / Z mini / GTV 4K, BT1 Bluetooth voice remote for Z11 Pro Max BT1, BT3 backlit voice remote for Z12 Ultra)
  • HDMI cable
  • Power adapter
  • Quick-start documentation

What you need that isn't in the box:

  • An HDMI-compatible TV (any 4K TV from the last 5+ years works fine; older 1080p TVs also work)
  • A reasonably stable internet connection — Wi-Fi works, but wired Ethernet is more reliable, especially for 4K streams
  • A Google account if you plan to install apps from the Google Play Store (you can create one during setup)
  • Your IPTV subscription credentials if you're setting up MYTVOnline 3 (the user/portal URL/M3U link from your IPTV provider)

Step 1 — Connect the hardware (2 minutes)

  1. Plug the HDMI cable into your TV. Note which HDMI input you used (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.)
  2. Plug the other end of the HDMI cable into the Formuler box
  3. Optional but recommended: plug an Ethernet cable into the box (gives you the most stable 4K streaming). If you'll use Wi-Fi instead, skip this.
  4. Plug in the power adapter
  5. Turn on your TV and select the correct HDMI input

The Formuler logo should appear within 10–20 seconds. If you see "No signal" on the TV, double-check the HDMI input.

Step 2 — Pair the remote (1 minute)

For IR remotes (Z10, Z mini, GTV 4K): No pairing needed. Just insert the included batteries and point it at the front of the box.

For BT1 Bluetooth voice remote (Z11 Pro Max BT1): When you first turn on the box, a pairing prompt usually appears on screen. If not, hold the Home + OK buttons together for ~5 seconds until the remote's LED flashes blue. Pairing completes automatically.

For BT3 backlit voice remote (Z12 Ultra): Same as the BT1. Hold Home + OK for 5 seconds. The backlight will flash during pairing.

Once paired, you can talk to the voice remote (press the mic button, ask for a show name) and use the universal TV controls (power, volume) to control your TV directly.

Step 3 — Connect to Wi-Fi or use Ethernet (3 minutes)

If you plugged in an Ethernet cable, the box detects it automatically — skip to step 4.

For Wi-Fi:

  1. Open Settings from the home screen
  2. Go to Network & InternetWi-Fi
  3. Select your network from the list
  4. Type your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard (the voice remote with the mic button speeds this up enormously)
  5. Wait for "Connected"

Pro tip: the Z11 Pro Max BT1 supports Wi-Fi 6, and the Z12 Ultra supports Wi-Fi 6E. If your router supports those, point the box at the 5 GHz or 6 GHz band — it's faster and less congested than 2.4 GHz.

Step 4 — Sign in with your Google account (2 minutes)

The first-boot wizard will ask for a Google account. You need this to:

  • Install apps from the Play Store
  • Use Google Assistant voice search (on the voice remotes)
  • Sync your apps and preferences across devices

Either type your existing Gmail address and password on the box, or use your phone to scan the QR code that appears on the TV screen — much faster than typing on the on-screen keyboard.

If you'd rather skip the Google account for now, you can — but you won't be able to install Play Store apps until you sign in later.

Step 5 — Check for updates (2 minutes)

Brand-new boxes sometimes have firmware updates waiting. Get them out of the way before installing apps:

  1. SettingsDevice PreferencesAboutSystem update
  2. If an update is available, it'll download and install automatically. Takes 3-5 minutes including a restart.

While you're in About, also check for MYTVOnline 3 updates (separate from the system update — it's in the MYTVOnline app's own settings menu).

Step 6 — Install your streaming apps (3 minutes)

From the Google Play Store (or Play Store icon on the home screen), install whatever you use:

  • Netflix — full 4K HDR with Widevine L1 (built into every current Formuler)
  • Disney+ — also 4K HDR
  • Amazon Prime Video — 4K HDR
  • YouTube — installed by default; just sign in
  • Apple TV+ — 4K Dolby Vision (Z12 Ultra only) / HDR10 (others)
  • Crave, Tubi, Pluto TV, etc. — Canadian/US streaming services
  • Plex / Jellyfin / Emby — your personal media server

Sign into each app once and you're done.

A note about the GTV 4K: because it's Google-certified, you have access to the full Google Play Store (vs the Android TV-flavored Play Store on the Z-series). You'll find more apps — including some that require Google certification like Apple TV+.

Step 7 — Set up MYTVOnline 3 (optional, ~5 minutes)

If you bought a Z-series box (Z10, Z mini, Z11 Pro, Z11 Pro Max BT1, Z12 Ultra) for IPTV, this is the main app you'll use. The GTV 4K doesn't include MYTVOnline 3 — it's Google TV instead.

To set up your IPTV portal:

  1. Open MYTVOnline 3
  2. MenuPortals
  3. Add new portal with your provider's details:
    • Portal name (anything you want)
    • Server URL (M3U or portal URL — get this from your IPTV provider)
    • Username and password (from your provider)
  4. Save. The channel list loads in 10-60 seconds depending on the playlist size.
  5. (Optional) MenuEPG to enable the electronic program guide
  6. (Optional) MenuDVR to set up recording (requires storage; the Z12 Ultra's 128 GB is great for this)

If you don't have an IPTV subscription yet, you don't need to set up MYTVOnline 3 — you can stick with Netflix/Disney+/etc.

Step 8 — Configure your TV settings for best picture (2 minutes)

For sharpest 4K HDR:

  1. On the TV: enable HDMI ALLM (auto low latency mode) and enable HDR pass-through for the input the Formuler is on
  2. For Dolby Vision (Z12 Ultra owners with Dolby Vision TVs): on the TV, switch the HDMI input's HDR mode to "Dolby Vision" or "DV Bright" — this lets the TV announce Dolby Vision support to the box
  3. For Dolby Atmos (Z12 Ultra): on a connected soundbar/AVR, set audio passthrough to "Bitstream" or "Auto" so the Atmos track passes through unchanged

For most users, the default Formuler settings are fine — no need to tweak anything in the box itself.

Troubleshooting common issues

"No signal" on TV after powering on the box. Re-seat the HDMI cable on both ends. Try a different HDMI port on the TV. Make sure the TV is on the correct input.

Wi-Fi is slow or drops. Move the box closer to the router, or switch to wired Ethernet. If your router is in another room, a Wi-Fi 6E router + the Z12 Ultra is the best wireless combo.

Netflix/Disney+ won't play in 4K HDR. Verify the app shows "HD" or "4K" badges on your account. Sign out and back in to refresh DRM. Make sure your HDMI cable is rated for HDMI 2.0+ (any cable bought in the last 5 years almost certainly is).

Voice remote won't pair. Replace the batteries. Hold Home + OK for 5 seconds again. Reboot the box.

Remote works but won't control TV volume/power. That's a universal-remote programming step. From the box's home screen, look for Remote setup or Universal remote in Settings, and follow the prompts to pair with your TV's brand.

MYTVOnline 3 channel list is empty. Double-check the portal URL and credentials from your IPTV provider. The URL is case-sensitive. If you used an M3U link, try the portal URL (Stalker portal) instead, or vice versa — providers often offer both.

Apps crash or run slow. Reboot the box (Settings → Device Preferences → About → Restart). If it persists, clear app cache (Settings → Apps → [App name] → Clear cache). If still slow, you may have run out of internal storage — the Z11 Pro's 16 GB fills up faster than the Z12 Ultra's 128 GB.

Frequently asked questions

Do Formuler boxes come with apps pre-installed?
Yes. Netflix, YouTube, and a basic app set come pre-installed. You add the rest from the Play Store during setup.

Do I need a Google account to use a Formuler box?
You don't need one to power it on and use MYTVOnline 3, but you'll need one to install apps from the Play Store. You can create a Google account during the first-boot wizard.

Can I use a Formuler box without IPTV?
Absolutely. The Z-series boxes are fully functional Android TV streaming boxes — Netflix, Disney+, YouTube, Plex, all the mainstream services. MYTVOnline 3 is optional, only used if you have an IPTV provider.

Does Widevine L1 come pre-installed?
Yes. Every current Formuler box (Z10, Z mini, Z11 Pro, Z11 Pro Max BT1, Z12 Ultra, GTV 4K) is Widevine L1 certified out of the box, which is required for 4K HDR playback on Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV+, and HBO Max.

How do I update MYTVOnline 3?
Inside the MYTVOnline 3 app, open the menu, go to Settings → Check for update. It's separate from the box's system update.

What if I'm switching from a Buzz TV / MAG / older Formuler box?
Your IPTV subscription portal URL works on any compatible box — you'll just re-enter it in MYTVOnline 3 on the new Formuler. Apps need to be installed fresh (sign in with your existing Google account to restore your purchase history).

Where can I find the manual?
The Quick Start card in the box has the basics. For the full PDF manual, search the Formuler support site by model name — every model has a downloadable user guide.

What's the warranty if something goes wrong?
1 year full manufacturer warranty + our 30-day return policy. If your box stops working within the first year, contact us and we'll arrange a replacement or repair.
